If you are looking to start your first WordPress website, and you just bought Hostwinds hosting and don’t know how to set it up, you are in the right place. I will show you a step-by-step process on how to install WordPress on your Hostwinds hosting.
This process is really short because WordPress comes with a one-click installation that will take you only 2-3 minutes to do it. Wordpress is free software and they will never charge you any money for your website.
Step 1: Go to your Hostwinds cPanel
You need to log into your Hostwinds hosting account. I will show you a step-by-step installation on my Demo account. Once you are logged in, click on Service -> My services.
Now click on the green Manage button.
Once you land on your Manage page, click on the Login to cPanel button and you will get to your cPanel page. Scroll down to the bottom of your cPanel page and you will find your WordPress installer button. (if you can’t see your WordPress icon you can click on BLOGS and you will find your WordPress icon there)
This is a one-click WordPress installer, you only need to click on the WordPress icon in order to install it on your domain. Wordpress is free software and I will show you how to install it in 2 minutes.
Click on the blue WordPress icon and it will take you to the new WordPress page.
Once you get to the WordPress installation page you will click on the blue Install now button. Now you have to make some changes to your WordPress default installation.
You can copy my installation settings if you want. (everything except Site name and Site description)
In Choose installation URL, choose Http:// or Https:// for your protocol.
Choose your domain name. Delete everything from “Directory” field, and leave this field empty.
Now enter your site name and your site description.
You will have to choose your Admin username, Admin password, and Admin mail.
Replace default Admin username with something personal (like your name, or a nickname). People will usually leave “admin” for their username, but if you ever get attacked by some hackers, the easiest way for them to hack into your account is if they already know your username.
Choose some strong password (at least 8 characters, at least 1 number).
Enter your e-mail address so WordPress can send you notifications regarding your website.
You won’t have to touch anything on Select plugin, Advance options, and Select theme options. Now you have to click the blue Install button and your WordPress will be installed, and you are done.
